I took a buttonwood workshop about a year ago. During that I killed the top of the tree and did some basic wiring. Today I worked on it for the 2nd time this season, which will probably be the last time this year, besides some carving in the fall.

First pic shows it after the first styling over a year ago. The rest is today with a rough virt of what I will try to accomplish with the foliage.

Open to your thoughts, advice, critique, etc. Thank you.

Nice. I like where you are heading with this.

Only part I'll change is remove the top branch on the smaller trunk...then carve the left of that trunk to give it some taper & character. Then develop the next top branch (going to the right) and use the top branch of that as the new apex (for the smaller trunk).

Maybe I'd cut the branches a bit shorter too and let them branch closer to the trunk. It gives you more options later. I NEVER bring my branches to the finished outline/silhouette during the first few trimmings...knowing they will keep growing and fill up over the years. I always leave room for the ramification to grow & develop to.

Good luck! :)
