I also bought some native material. Pinus Choctawhatchee ,Florida Sand Pine, does not really bark up but the needles are naturally 1-2 inches. There are two down the road from me. Ill snap some pics. And Pinus Virginiana improved. Doesn't trunk up great but might as well while I'm in the seed business. Sheffields actually lists where the seeds where collected and the crop year. I'm wondering if my sand pine is going to do anything since the crop year was 1984. My birth year. Zelcova so I can pay for this expenditure in a couple years hopefully. $10 a pop maybe.

need to trim the plastic and staple it to the sides so it is tidy. It's osb which is why I used the plastic. It should get me through a year. Just happened to be a pile of it that the last homeowners left in the shed. I love free

Cutting method ensued. My failure rate will probably somewhat high. I just couldn’t make time to cut them when it was optimal. A good portion of them the stems has started turning woody, some were purple and half woody, others were purple. Couple that with the fact that my potting material is poor draining, pro choice perlite and peat.

I removed the seedlings from their seedling bed and aerated the soil while getting a good treatment of fungicide throughout.

Seedlings were sorted to a strong and medium pile. The weak seedlings were discarded. Everything was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. The seedlings were then placed in groups of 10 in a pan of water. 5 to 1 concentrate of dip n grow. Groups of 10 cut in a bunch at one time. Not all cuttings were equal length. 10 second dip. Left to dry off for 30 seconds to 1 minute before striking. Soil was lightly firmed around the cuttings after striking. Cuttings inserted cotyledon touching soil surface. 234 struck

Placed under a metal shade structure in high pine shade. High Temps in mid 80s during the first week. Misting several times a day as needed.

Well I learned a lot. I will def not be winning. 99 percent of mine died. Learned to never ever use hb pro mix. Like ever. That stuff was like trying to grow something in a swamp. I prob have watered them about 3 times since the contest started. The mix just never ever dries out. Future seeds will be planted in the course sand I use in my cutting bed.
