First of all, do they make ok bonsai? I ask because I was out today at the nursery and they had a bunch ranging from very small to over 4 feet tall. The smaller of the biggest ones were between 3-4 feet tall and had very thick trunks. I guess my main question is (if they even make suitable bonsai), can you take one of the larger ones and cut the main trunk down so 18"-24" and work with it from there? As is, they are too tall and very Christmas tree like. I am new to all this so I am not sure exactly how to proceed if at all.

I'm working on one now. The branches take repeated rewiring To hold shape.

I've had one since 2000. They are very hardy but have very little memory when wiring. I personally find them a pain in the ***. I won't ever have another one and might get rid of the one I have. At this point it's become personal

haha...personal...Yeah, after posting this I read that they tend to not do well with wiring. I guess I'll skip this one for now. I did end up picking up a Bird's Nest Spruce that I plan to do some light pruning and repotting to see what happens. Otherwise, I will try to collect some local stuff as well and try to work with that this year too.
