Hey guys! Let me just start off by saying all hail the "make an offer" section in nurseries!

Today I was at my favorite local nursery when I walked past this Honeysuckle in the make an offer section. I somehow walked past it last week without even taking a second glance.

Once I got down and dirty, I could tell this baby was coming home with me today. It has some gnarly twisted Deadwood that I just fell in love with. I got it and a 20 lb bag of growing medium for $20.1496509305442185032813.jpg 1496509394655525250667.jpg 1496509422348932875633.jpg 1496509456621830742658.jpg

The center red and the right red are already dead (HA). So those are going regardless

Nice save Danny! I was about to cut off that dead branch when I got the idea to use it to move that branch over. Win!

Think this is all I'm gonna do for awhile until I get a better game plan. Im trying to work with what I have. I don't want to regret cutting one of these main branches yet. I don't think it would be wise to prune anymore, what's your guys thoughts?

That looks like a fun project. Don't know the first thing about honeysuckle as bonsai. Here in PA they are the first tree to grow in an open area. They'll get real tall real quick and shed all but the top branches before they get knocked over by a storm. Kind of a pain in the ass if you live near the woods

That's the only section I ever shop in...

So I've learned that these new leaders harden insanely quick. You'd never guess by the looks of it, but they're already almost too stiff to bend w/o breaking. Luckily, I put some lazy wiring on it to guide them in the general desired direction so it wouldn't be impossible to do so in the fall.

You can see in the top of the plant how the new shoots want to grow straight up

Getting down to the surface and cleaning up this hallow space. So much potential! 15062943052312130868158.jpg 1506294327554438842512.jpg 150629435731534168487.jpg

Removed a few branches, these old branches have no chance of bending. Still trying to figure out what else to remove!
