Yup, watering trees today listening to music thru my earbuds as normal, but the cord caught a corner of my one and only Itoigawa that was in fine Akadama, and fell to the ground:mad:

The tree was wired in (resin pot), though most all the soil came out. I quickly grabbed what I had of Akadama, but med. size is all I had. Put the soil back in and watered it thoroughly.

Anyone have advice as to aftercare at this point? It's been in full sun. Not sure to put it under my 30% shade cloth or leave it in the sun?

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas!

PS: Lesson learned though, put the earbuds under my shirt from now on!

As long as the roots stayed in the pot and all that came out was the soil, then refilling it and water is all you need. I would keep it under the shade cloth for a few weeks till I seen signs of new growth, then resume.

Screw those mamby pamby earbuds and get your self a couple Volkswagon sized speakers for the patio and crank up the music like the big boys!

Smoke, you are a funny one! I'd love that! ;) My condo/apt surrounding neighbors...ah, not so much hehe

And Thank You so much for the advice! It's one of my favorite trees so I was a bit nervous. So Thanks for the reassurance as well!

I usually run the wires down my back inside my shirt, and put my MP3
player in my back pocket... This way the wires aren't in my way.

No one has asked the most important question! Were you listening to "music" and if so what? Or was it some modern noise that passes for music??

Remember your trees love true, soothing classical music.

Sawgrass, that's what I'm going to do from now on. Too bad I had to learn the hard way.

Well the trees might like soothing classical, but I purposely didn't say what kind of music b/c I figured I'd catch some grief lol I have always loved R&B way back in my teens, but now I listen to rap/hip hop almost exclusively. Strange I know for a white guy, at 52, but I can't help what I really enjoy LOL The music just 'makes me happy' ;)

That offered the best imagery. I can see you "going hard" walking around your bonsai garden with a pair of tweezers and scissors.

LOL! Plus, I kinda mutter along with the lyrics which drives my partner nuts. But it certainly gives me more energy to work on the trees after work and I'm tired! :D

Might seem a bit odd because I am Older but I find Dark Metal relaxes me. The Wife agrees and we go to Metal concerts as well. Rare we listen to anything other then that or classical...

As a contrast, I'm a younger black man of 31 and I prefer 60s and 70s music, jazz and country. I can imagine pulling up next to Chris at a stop light; him playing Lil Wayne and Zac Brown from my car. LMAO!

That inspired me to listen to Louis Armstrong just now - I don't have tunnel vision and enjoy different things but not often :p

Interesting thread. I'm still a punk rocker at 51, though I do listen to many kinds of music. The one genre that I've never been able to tolerate is rap and hip hop. Then again, maybe that's really 2 genres? I can't tell the difference.

I've never had the problem with ear buds but I'm always having issues with hoses catching on pots while watering. Also, be careful with those string trimmers...they can do a lot of damage in a hurry!

Chris

Absolutely different! If you're not seeking out hip hop, you're listening to rap. The radio stations are so trendy and... well, they plays what sells. Problem is, teenagers are the ones buying! And besides Rebound Ryan, of course, teens have no damn sense!

I bought the Wife a 2013 Beetle a few weeks back with all the trimmings. She NEVER listens to radio EVER. I made sure it had that crazy 400 watt Fender Sound system in it with a sub woofer - why? She has over 200 Metal and classical Cd's on one SD card plugged right into the dash - she has her favorite music top quality sound and controls it all from the steering wheel. No need for radio...

I rarely listen to radio these days. That's probably why I can't tell the difference between rap and hip hop...

I'm with you guys. I'm mp3 almost exclusively since I let my satellite radio subscription die. I never had a phonograph nor an 8-track. My kid will never have a tape or even a CD. So much technology advancement and we are still arguing about the best dirt to put in a pot ;)

I have tons of music (40,000+ MP3's) and have it on much of the time that I'm in the house or the car. I never even think about bringing it outside with me when I'm working on trees though, via headphones, earbuds, old fashioned speakers, or whatever.

I think part of what I like about the hobby is that I'm outside, taking in the sights and sounds, breathing fresh air, getting my feet dirty, etc. There's plenty of time to blast my eyes and ears with media when I can't be out back.

Not that there's anything wrong with choosing to listen to music while tending to little trees - just wanted to add my perspective as someone who chooses not to.
