Hi. Got this tree about a year ago and I think it needs a little pruning and rewiring. I got it because it reminded me of Bag End. My app says it’s an eastern red cedar? I haven’t been able to find much information on this tree. Would appreciate some advice on when to prune and how best to go about it.
Thinking of cleaning the trunk, removing some branches, and creating some deadwood if this is ok with this species?

Nice tree.
Yeah. Wiring could be redone. If only for aesthetics . But structure would benefit as well.😁
Do you have a closeup of the foliage?

Yeah. Will remove the wires at the very least. Just didn’t want it to turn to juvenile foliage if I can help it. Will take closeups of the foliage in the morning. not enough light in the garden now.

Yeah when I first looked at that tree was hard to believe ERC. But after examining closer looks like it is. Probably still growing juvenile foliage due to the pruning. I’ve seen some small ones where I hike that are small and very dense. Usually they are more scraggly and have long internodes. Do not naturally grow dense.

Hi guys. Took some photos of the foliage. It’s pretty soft and not prickly like most junipers I have. What would be the care guide for this? Is it ok to prune or will it go back to juvenile prickly foliage?

Chamaecyparis iceberg or Thuja pancake look very similar. There's probably some other cultivars like that. Mine don't get mature foliage, so I wouldn't worry about that

Been searching chamaecyparis and thuja juvenile foliage. So far the most similar I’ve found is juvenile ERC. 3B86C2B1-6D8F-405F-B7F8-58C0AE0AB1FD.png

Oh good be that cultivar of chamaecyparis. None of these trees are native here. So someone must have gotten them here before. All ingot from the seller was its a juniper. Wasn’t really convinced but I liked how it looked.
