He is selling a nice black pine (3 total, no reserve), currently going for $134. I wish I could keep it alive....or I'd bid!

Is this the same Bonsai Nut or a different person? If it is, DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE TREES? :P

Edit: You can disregard. I just remembered I can PM him, making this post redundant and an exercise in stupidity. Thanks!!! :)

All I know is that if I grew it from seed I could never sell it!

GarlR,

If you are looking for trees, try pm'ing Bonsai Nut members Johng, Ken Duncan, bwaynef ( John Geanangle, Ken Duncan and Green Thumb Bonsai all in South Carolina) or digger714 (Brad Russell at the Bonsai Learning Center) just north of Charlotte NC if you want to trade local. You can also look into the websites for The Growing Grounds (Marc Torpa) or Matsu-Momiji (Steve Pilacik) bonsai nurseries.

Regards,
Martin

I heard bad thing about the last two from the list. I have never experience with them but read plenty on th forums.

GarlR,

In fairness to Marc Torpa at the Growing Grounds, he grows excellent trees. I have never had a problem dealing with him. I haven't dealt with him much recently, and never have had anything shipped from his nursery. That said, others have experienced issues with receiving replies to inquiries and with the condition of shipments received. I feel as though you owe yourself a visit to his webpage to at least look around and gain an understanding of what is available in your area. That said, I do realize that the negative reactions to the mere mention of his name outweigh my tepid endorsement 2-1 (so far).

Martin

Ha. Okay, thanks! :) My only limitation is that I sleep during the day, so it is very hard for me to travel any major distance. It looks like Matsu Momiji is going out of business, and Growing Grounds is very experience, and sold out of everything.

I also bought my natalensis from Hank Miller. (www.Tandamiti.com) He has his own little section on bonsai hunk.

Great guy. Great shipping. He really cares about his trees. I just bought another one, a ficus burtt-davyi.

As you can tell, I decided to purchase from him again, so it was definitely a great experience. The burtt-davyi was only $60.

See below.

Yes I would agree that at least at some point he had excellent material. He probably still does? I believe the ONLY way to deal with this vendor is to actually go and pick up a tree at his place. Otherwise I would say not to bother. I purchased a monster Japanese maple about 3 years ago. I had it shipped and when it arrived the entire apex of the tree was destroyed with branches poking right through the box and the pot completely smashed. He had packed the tree in a flimsy cardboard box doing little more than trowing the tree in it! Others have been far less fortunate where they simply never got their tree!!

With that said however, the tree itself was of quality and as advertised at least in my experience.

The growing grounds gets and Also pulls a lot out of the ground in the spring time. That's when you will see his website fill up with trees again.
