Hi all

This is an elm collected in the UK BUT...... It has wings like Ulmus Alata which is found in the US but rare in Europe. I was wondering if any of you good people could look and give me some input towards an ID. I have been told some hybrid Alata came in through Holland about 100 years ago and this raft was a sucker from a very old elm now long gone. Alata have also been mistakenly Identified at Pumila in the past so getting an ID is difficult. The leaves are very tiny on this piece of Yamadori but its newly collected - after a year the max leaf size is about 1 inch.

Any Elm Experts out there - help would be welcome.

The leaf looks like alata all right, and with the corky wings on the branchlet (if I'm seeing correctly) that's most likely what you've got.

Could also be a cork-barked Chinese elm...
