I purchased an english boxwood from homedepot today. I figured it would be a good chance to practice some pruning and wiring techniques and I won't be too upset if I end up killing it or it looks terrible, but you have to start somewhere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Repot, styling, wiring, fertilizing... anything! Thanks!

Feller....you gotta stop doing this! Lol...

Ask first! Then proceed...

Not proceed...then ask....then rewind time...!

Back to the drawing board?

Back to the chopping block!

I appreciate the enthusiasm no matter what!

But I know you can find better material...

If you don't look at every tree, then chose, you are not looking hard enough.

I always keep the best one I find....then put it back when I find a better one....
And so on till I have 1-3 of the best possible plants there are....and my fingers go into every bucket.....

One time...after I told her what I was doing, the lady at the depot was like...

"Oh, I thought this guy just liked roots!"

Well she was right! Nebari or bust!
Juniper, good close foliage or bust!

The plant has had enough for now, concentrate on keeping it alive in that pot for a year, lightly trimming it to shape. Pruning, wiring, and repotting usually kills them, well at least at my place. ;)
Starting out you will soon discover that you need to learn to grow plants in pots as it is quite different then tossing them in the ground. Smaller plants from big box stores, several of them, different types, will keep you busy and learning.

Welcome to B-Nut! :)
