Other than the massive wire scars, this guy had a pretty good year I would say. I think I will look for more English Oak.

Hmm. Seems subsidiary trunks taking all strength/growing bark from center trunk:oops:. Curious. Personally would remove straight uninteresting trunk.

So sadly the English Oak I have been discussing in this thread heretofore now never woke up in 2022. I suspect some sort of small mammal made a feast of its tender buds during the cold winter. I was very sad. So sad that I went out and bought another one. Pictured below.

It is in the same nursery container that I bought it in last year. I did some trimming last fall and will probably do more soon.

Any thoughts on where to go with this tree this spring? Leave it in the pine bark? Put it in the ground? Put it in a training pot?

Maybe Zone 5 too cold for tree and roots froze or soil dried out😕😣?
