This escallonia, and several more, was collected about 3 or 4 years ago by Tim Kong of San Francisco. He very kindly presented me with this one about 2 or so years ago.
It was trimmed and repotted in the early spring of this year. Recently I trimmed it some more and wired it.

Some years ago, about 1996, one of my employee's was getting married. My guy was engaged to Tim Kong's niece. During the wedding Tim had asked his future nephew in law if anyone in his neck of the woods did bonsai. He said yes "my boss does". Tim spent the day at my place and we grafted a few maples and did some pruning on some junipers.

During the grafting I asked Tim what he uses for sealing the grafts, he said "spit". ...."works real good". Every time I see Tim at a BABA exhibit or Eastbay exhibit we laugh about "the spit". Of course if you seen his redwoods you would say the "spit works"!

Nice trunk and pot. The crown will take a few more years. Are these things as brittle as they look?
