Going to clean this up and put into a shallow flat this spring. Will also air layer for future forest or individuals, then low chop to grow new leader. Really happy with this find. Pretty sure it’s 9ft tall.

8.2” trunk diameter to add. One of the last deciduous trees I’ll find besides a few natives collecting . I have a good amount of work ahead of me next few years. Getting back to focusing on collecting / acquiring conifers again when time is right.

Curious to see if it would just be better to air layer as much as possible or just go for a trunk chop next spring. Not too familiar with European hornbeam, I read they don’t die back as bad as American Hornbeam

Gonna try and ground layer this next spring as well, too late in season, so develop base and new apex
