Wow. Of all your incredible photo histories, this one highlights to me the constantly evolving, dynamic nature of bonsai. The bold decisions you made with the styling over time are fascinating and inspiring - it really demonstrates how nimble your vision is. I will be studying this for a while! Walter, do spruce bud back on old wood? I have some nice Engelmann spruce that I collected but they lack growth lower down and I would like that to happen if possible. I was almost against that lower left branch decision until I saw the results years later. Looks very nice! What is the time period we are looking at with this tree? Thanks for the display. Peter

Mind you, it only looks like there were a lot of design decisions by the artist. The truth is that more often than you want to admit the tree has decided and the artist then made the best of this. EG. this lower left trunk (absolutely not a branch!) died because it wanted to die and henceforth existed as jin.
