I bought this JBP earlier this week. When I got it home it had sap on the needles and I couldn't find where it was coming from. Does anyone have ideas what this might be or whether I should be concerned?

I am not a pine guy but I would be concerned as the sap is the life blood of the pine. I wonder if it came from a wounded branch on another tree and dripped onto yours? Adair, Smoke and October as well as Ang3Flr3 and his Missus Victrinia are knowledgeable on pines, there may be some others I missed too. Hope you get an answer soon.

Yes, Late winter early spring sap starts to move once again up from the roots to the top of the tree. Pruning, mechanical damage, insect wounds etc will cause sap to flow out. If you see no damage on your tree , as Ed said , probably from a nearby tree. Nothing to be concerned about.
