Have a Burtt Davyi Ficus root over rock planting that I made around a year ago. Rock and roots are fully covered in soil and wrapped to the rock with plastic tape. I was planning on uncovering the roots and taking off the tape in the next few weeks. How gradually do I need to do this? Can I just expose them all at once, or do I need to do it slowly over time for them to adjust being exposed?

So no need to gradually expose the roots to the air?

Just repot it the way you want it. It will take some time before the underground parts' bark matches the upper bark, so the sooner you switch, the better. The only consideration is whether or not you have a good enough root system to support the top.

Ficus are resilient and forgiving specie. You can shape them in almost any style. They will adept accordingly. Root over rock is common style here in South Asia. They quickly grows root swallowing the rock. I think couple of pictures wont hurt the thread.
