4weeks trunk growth

I believe this is same tree...4 weeks apart, the base has a bit more swelling to help taper.
Roots develop better when trees rest and photosynthesize the way their eons of genetics are programed to do....leaf energy that is not all wasted to support huge amounts of top growth from luxery nitrogen.
Boost photosynthesis instead......my co2 fertilization probably puts this leaf process on steroids, but definately something to be said here about accentuating photosynthesis instead of luxery top-growth from luxery nitrogen.
Interesting really....ok I know these are quite small bonsai lol.

good coloring on a coreana hornbeam

This coreana hornbeam has very nice color on leaves, but actually has zero success making cuttings.Maybe its the redness in the leaves or something. The greener variant on the other one I have seems to propogate better.
I will just grow this on...it is thickening well.I have a few more in storage and also seeds stratifying. They all seem to like the beautiful conditions I am providing. In the past I had trouble growing the coreanas’.

coreana cuttings

3weeks and getting roots! Good sign they may air-layer well for better roots.Fun stuff.
Excited for seeds to germinate,so lots of variety in this species and just make seedling -layers right away.

How long did you stratify the seeds?

deciduous are more resilient from bio-stimulants

I can attest to the resiliance of the trees from addition of bio-stimulants.The 5:2 ratio of fulvic acid and kelp and also amino acids L-glycine /L -glutamate that enhance calcium uptake consideralbly along with other amino acids and humic acid.Very low veg EC at .8 which is just above base veg rate by .2 points.
The last few days I have been busy and only watering once a day and the korean hornbeam get very dry with no ill effect.
although I prefer watering twice a day.

Zelkova defoliation/shape

This will be very dense a couple more months I imagine.I want a solid crown before I sell if possible.
Great starts anyway.

You're doing some pretty amazing stuff. Wow.
Thank you for the compliment.I’m very excited about this .Although my girlfreind was saying kast night that I work too much and was concerned that she cannot help with bonsai and wanted me to do some other kind of small business where she can actually help.I actually complied as we went to bed last night 😯
This morning ,I’m like what was I thinking?
CM Bonsai 4ever😄
Going to just deny we had that conversation really.

zelkova /transplant

I have tons of seedlings, but I like to have selection.
I chose ones with budding all the way down the stem to the very first leaf.A couple were actually pushing shoots at this very early stage!
I believe this will prove beneficial. The last batch I gave no consideration to selection and some did act somewhat poorly while others were the bomb.
Planted 30 in open lighting.Going to use the 1:1 balanced motherplant formula I use for cuttings propogation this go around to see if the seedling -layers root any quicker...although these fully root in less than two weeks anyway.
I should be performing seedling -layers in a month🤪
Focusing efforts on deciduous more and more...while making about 50-100 jbp seedling cuttings each batch.

I’m confident all 30 of these Zelkova will be very nice.

re-potted some zelkova

To vitalize and aerate these zelkova ,I peeled off the pouches and snipped the bottoms and potted into some 6” plastic pots. Will vitalize enough to make it a few more months.

This is 3rd go around,so will probably let rest and stall the flush that extends out to just get strong until they are sold.
Looking good! 5 mnths
This will have a nice base,as there are so many thick branches coming right out the roots 🤪

Looks like 70-80% success rate, although rooting is slow. These will be air-layered when almost pencil thick.More excited about all the seed I have stratifying!
These will be test subjects;)

JBP SEEDLING CUTTING

At 10 days the majority of these start callousing. In a few days I will dampen with a rooting stimulant.Probably 5:2 ratio fulvic acid and kelp.Absolutely no nitrates or potassium yet.
