These are about 2.5 mnths from sewing of seed!
Looking like a good batch.Put into stronger light today after 3-4 weeks of root fertilizer.

potted the Mighty One again
My only seedling.A very strong one.Probably only Pine I keep for myself.
I slip potted out of a rootpouch a couple months ago into a larger rootpouch, but it started to get a bit too dry for my liking.
So today its potted into a plastic pot that should hold more moisture.Otherwise roots looked good despite drying down a couple times.

spring goodies

85% or so savings buying in bulk 🤪

This is what I use most of.The base, humic, kelp, calmag and L aminos’.

The microbes, enzymes, yucca and spoon feeding of nutrients will just be bought in smaller amounts.
Yes! Freakin’ 85% savings.....totally adds up in a few years...especially for a small business or large garden.

giving the aeroponic cloner another shot!!

I posted this in another thread to help someone grow some Japanese maples indoors and then I got totally involved and started to realize the benefits of using aeroponic cloning to grow my Zelkova as I can grow from seed and from cutting and develop the overachieving specimens which I do have a few performing phoenominally:)
Aeroponic cloning seems better cause humidity shock from the propagator can really set back a cutting especially sensitive varieties.
I will see if I can perfect technique hopefully these will be good.
Used dip&grow like 10 minute dip!! At 20% strength. And then poured 1.5 ml of the 20% dip&grow into my 2.5 gallons of cloner water.
Also added 16 ml per gallon clonex solution into cloner resovoir for a low ec like .7 or somthing.
Used clear rez to maintain cleanliness with higher temps from leaving pump on 24/7.
If this shows results which I do feel confident because these have very good vascular systems and I think they will remain turgid long enough to root....in the future I will feed them strictly mother plant formulas but definitely keep the high brix and increase the vascular systems with tons of calcium uptake like these are.
Some different techniques this time with advice from other growers and articles online. When I get this dialed in I will report my techniques that help me have success.
Wish me luck!! 🤪

JBP seedling cuttings rooting at 17 days.

Looks like satisfactory results for 17 days.I turned down the heat to 78f.....roots grow faster at that temperature.I do 85f till’ I see roots.
looks about 65-75% success. What I like is that all the ones rooting are radial roots.Makes the job so much easier when you can get 70 good cuttings from one flat.
On next batch I will experiment with more light to see if that helps...I notice ones on edge are not as much root.

Also FW SCHUMACHER is taking orders for their JBP seeds.Said will be delivered in two weeks.

Their seed is by far the freshest I have used.I soak in Fulvic Acid and Kelp overnight and they germinate in about 4 days with no stratification needed.Impressive.
I bought a 1/4 lb so I am good for season,as fresh seed can easily be stored viable for a season.......ahhh the beauty ;)
Have to call...not on website yet.

seriously bushy

I got to say, this is one seriously bushy pine tree.Almost looks like thunderhead JBP cultivar or something.
it is 7 months old.
crazy bushy.Just resting there ,it has to be building some strength.I do not know if it will push candles or not......By mid summer I have to take it outside to prepare for its first winter storage.Curious what kind of candles it will push after a couple month dormancy and then brought back inside.

won’t be long before these are ready to sell

I may put these up for sale a bit earlier,as soon as branching gets solid.Maybe only about 7 weeks from now.

Zelkova

I have lowered the light intensity on these and also lowered fertilizer, but with every watering with lots of bio stimulants and foliar feeds of weak nutrients on a daily basis. Also more Fulvic acid in the nutrient solution to assist with uptake of the nutrients to make fertilizer more efficient, while also being a lower strength. These are pushing their fourth time so when they elongate a bit they will halt for quite a while.....Gets them really happy when they sit with limited growth, but with an even, fresh supply of leaf energy.

The one in last photo has been this way for quite a while and the color is great to the leaves as it gets stronger and stronger.....without elongation of growth that waste the energy.

Awesome callousing....Aeroponics is working 5 days

So,yea I think I can increase success now that I am getting very good callousing at 5 day!
Moved everything into a tent with better humidity and some co2 to see if extra photosynthesis help...I read so.
Took several more cuttings also.Dipped for almost 20 minutes 20% strength...the reason they do not perish from alcohol burn is the water spray.Otherwise they would not survive such a long dip&grow.
This is working with very crude conditions of low humidity and no prep of the mother’s,so will only improve.I will get a cheap humidifier today...will not take much for this small sealed tent.
may have to vent....Just noticed 80f as of now...don’t want my water over 86f.

zelkova/pines

these Zelkova look great.
Also increased light intensity on this crop of pines to see results...just over 1000 par.Only advisable with added co2.
Even ,balanced growth on the Zelkova...go kelp!

this ought to do it

No work for weeks now...Life bonanza!
Used the vapor humidifier from my larger tent for the aeroponic tent.
set at 80% I believe these cuttings will be a lot less stressed and get the hormones from the leaves to the cutting much more efficiently.......Co2 set at 700, but such a small tent I can only set the regulator so low. This 10lb tank may last several months...freakin’ bomb......well worth the $23.
lets see if co2 helps cuttings.I read actually less pathogens, less transpiration as plants have over abundance of co2 and can actually close stomata a bit as they conserve moisture, but still take in vast co2.
warmth seems dialed in enough with air cooler than the water.

I’m excited for this.......My mother fertilizers will be here by Tuesday and I can really prepare the plants for cuttings and get great results with no stress and right into growth....I know it is possible. All about the environment.

very large red Hawthorne mother plant 😆

ok,so going to try and propagate some crataeugus x media ( Paul’s scarlet).
Since I am seeing results with the aeroponic cloner,I will give the red Hawthorne another attempt. This has been in the ground a couple years now.
Sprayed all foliage this morning with 5:2 ratio Fulvic acid /kelp.Will continue to do so every week.I also drenched the roots with 13 gallons of a 1:1 ratio ..custom motherplant formula I created.... loaded with maximum calcium and biostimulants along with Amino acids to enhance calcium uptake.Absolutely drenched it!
Hopefully pumps this tree up quickly.

cloner recipes

I am anticipating good results next batch.I like the higher heat method,as I pump the heat up on my other clones until I see callous. On next batch I will run warm and then cut back maybe when roots form.
I followed advise from Harley Smith and squirted a very concentrated mix of humic and Fulvic acid w/ kelp onto the calloused stems. They put out proper root nubs after I did so.Can definately see the difference between callous and nubs.Next batch I will add a dilute bit from beginning.
So general consensus sais’ is best to add Clonex or 1/2 strength bloom nutrient( for water culture at .4-1.2 EC) into reservoir along with a rooting hormone such as Hormex solution or kLN or ones denoted in article below. One or the other by themselves has a lesser result.Always use rooting hormone solution paired with Nutes.I will also add the humic and Fulvic and kelp.Plus I like an extended dip with the dip&grow.Though now will probably use my original 10% 5 minute dip.
Definately have to add a sterilizer like the Clear Rez.The humates and kelp are not living biology....just a wealth of plant growth elements/ mineral.
I see no need to cycle the pump unless there is excessive heat being(87f or higher).
Seems I will increase success by forgoing my small tent and instead use the supplied dome to keep leaves turgid longer and also preparing the mother’s...my mother formulas arrive tomorrow.
So 8 days I am pleased with results and will now try harder...
if roots are full enough I can forgo making seedling air-Layers to save a bit of work.

Zelkova mothers

The trees that are resting are going to get motherplant nutrients for now on so I can propogate. In fact all zelkovas will be fed with mother formulas from start to finish ,so I can propogate the nicest ones.Balanced 1:1 nitrogen to potassium ratio at 1 EC......Also banked down the light intensity to slow growth and get energetic through photosynthesis. My fertilizers arrived today and I make custom nutrients.
Makes great sense to propogate the ones that make it to this stage whilst I am always growing from seed too for fresh genetics.
