It's ok to do rootwork / repotting ánd airlayer in 1 go? I thought both would weaken it.

I think ficus are pretty tolerant of all kinds of work provided they are in good health and proper aftercare, especially if work is done 'out of season'. The airlayer that I separated in fall was moved onto a bench in my shower for the winter; the roots really took off and it produced aerial roots

Thinned the canopy to encourage lower branch development. Large wounds will bridge and approach grafts in spring.

1/15/2017 - Here is the layer I removed a year ago. I thinned it out in early fall. Now it's time to reduce one of the trunks. I used a key hole saw to remove and a dremel to carve. The edges were cleaned up with a grafting knife and cut paste was applied.
