Masterpiece
I found this guy on the side of the gravel leaving my friends farm today. It was such of a pretty specimen of an American beech and the buds had just started to extend. The timing couldent have been any more perfect. It was just begging to come home with me. So I obliged it! I got lucky with this one and the roots were all in the first 6 inches of soil with plenty of fine feeders and no tap root to cut.. it seems Mother Nature must have planned this because she did an exquisite job preparing this one for its life as a bonsai. The natural ramification was impressive too for such a small tree. It also had a little friend growing a foot beside it and I didn’t have the heart to leave behind so it came too. I made sure they would stay together in the same orientation, just a little closer this time. I think they complement each other quite nicely. After an easy potting and 2 rounds of mixing soil they are in the shade in the back of my nursery area. I really hope both these little guys make it and have a speedy recovery this year. I’m debating what to do with these when it comes to future styling plans but I’m leaning towards just leaving them be as they are and seeing where they want to go on their own.
