Fall colors were a little blah this year for me. First my Korean hornbeam, then Chickasaw plum, Japanese maple arakawa, and a plain Jane jm seedling that sprouted from a tree in my aunts landscape four years ago. The hornbeam may have some color left to get.

This is a cutting of an elm. A volunteer maple. And some plant I plan on having in a cascading kusamono next year.

And the spring pic of the same.

I've been looking forward to seeing your new space with your trees, glad you waited to show us at the best time of the year! So beautiful. I imagine it's even better in person, I would be in my lawn chair all day.

PS, how do you keep your gravel so clean?!

Very nice Mach5! I'm very jealous of the colors you get up north. My landscape japanese maples get pretty good color, but the ones in pots don't seem to. Like most of my other bonsai, they seem to stay green longer than the trees in the ground, and then they seem to drop quickly once winter hits without giving me the display you are getting :(

Here are some JM varieties I have in the ground. Gotta love JMs this time of year!

I'm starting to get a little color on my bonsai now. We're expecting temps below freezing later this week, so unfortunately I think most of my bonsai won't give much of a color display, even though we are probably close to peak season for fall color.

First picture is an amur maple forest that I've been working on the last couple of years. Some years it turns red, others yellow. I purchased a 3-group and 2-group planting from a friend and combined them, taking out two of the less interesting trees. It's coming along pretty well after hacking back the two side trees and developing new branching.

The next is a wisteria that I dug from my parents' place a few years ago. For scale, it's about 4' in height, and this year is giving pretty nice yellow color.

Thanks J! Still more to do but will have to pick it up again next spring. It has taken way more time than originally anticipated. Everything is time and money!

I keep the gravel clean with a well... leaf blower naturally!

Sir, would it be to much trouble for you to post the height of the trees? They are certainly beautiful and including the dimensions would give us who hope to reach your level of artistry a better sense of exactly what we're looking at in relation to like trees that we may have. Thank you.

Vince

Sadly, we don't get much Fall color in Southern California. Most of my deciduous just dry up. Here's the best I can do:

2014_10_wing_elm.jpg

I should have added - this is a Wing Elm.

Snap a picture of this tree every night.
I want to capture every stage.
It's going to get pruned and shaped after it is peaked.
