Last year I dug up a decent size Crepe Myrtle, chopped it, and had it in a pot growing well. I put it in a section of my garden that has automatic watering and it did well. I didn't check on it for the last month and yesterday I found it half dead. Well, more like mostly dead.

I found a hole right in between two large roots. Not knowing what creature could be in the hole, I flooded it with water. After running the water into it for 4 minutes, two toads came out. When the first one poked the head out of the hole, I thought I saw a water moccasin. I was prepared to smack the heck out of it. Lucky for the toad I recognized it in time.

While repotting the tree, I found out the toad hole dried out and killed 3/4 of the roots. That tree is so far gone. Mebbe true love can bring it back :)

Okay CajunRider,

my turn. You see we have this neighbour who adopted 2 female
stray cats. We offered to have them fixed.
No go.
So every fullmoon, mate, mate, mate and 2 have become 8+/

The dogs are run morning, noon and evening to teach the kittens
to stay out.
Well we went out for a day to work in Mayaro and usually leave
4,00 a.m, coming back when the work is finished.
This day we came in very late.

Next day, the Texas Ebony since 1980, was found out of it's pot
top broken, upside down, roots roasted dry.
No good talking to the neighbour, had to restrained another
neighbour, when he scratched the man's mercedes benz and
then turned around and blamed the neighbour for parking his
car in front of his own gate.

The pest neighbours are under 5' 6" ,the car's owner is 6' 2"/

Cat/s jumpimg up on 4' high stands and also found sleeping under
the big tamarind.

x months later all branches dead and a shoot comes off the trunk.
Show you in 6 years - air layer or restarted ?
Good Day
Anthony

How Manicured is your lawn?

Sucks cuz new developments that encroach on wild land tend to be all sod and barren of natural habitat so the best place for anything is in our pots!

I can't get a toad to stick around in my jungle.

I am surrounded by water and natural landscape. The toads have zero problem find other places. They just chose my pot! They were lucky I decided not to stomp their asses.

I can't imagine toads making a huge hole, maybe they were exploiting a hole that was already there?

Most I've seen is a hole just big enough for them to hide in. Unless of course you have big toads and the tree was fairly small, so they made a significant sized hole in relation to the tree size?

I'm not a hippy pacifist, but I try not to kill anything, bugs and small animals included. Unless things are in my house, then they may die for trespassing, but I still usually move bugs back outside.

I have tons of mosquitos and other bugs outside, and a small pond with frogs, so I need all the help I can get from the little critters around.

Thank god it wasn’t a water moccasin!! Just the thought of one has me very freaked out now.

I hope your tree recovers 🙏

It they were water moccasins, they would be dead. I kill every water moccasins I find around my house. Out it the wild when I do hunting or fishing, I leave them alone for I am in their environment. I even leave them alone if they are in the far part of my yard. However, near the house, they will be dead. I don't risk self injury for trying to relocate them.

Near my house, I spray and kill every bad bug & skeeters. Away from my house, I leave them be. Small animals I tend to leave them be unless they are like the one raccoon that claimed my house as his territory by pooping right at my front door every night for a week. I put a bullet in its head when I finally caught it in the act one night.

PS: That was the only one time my lady was OK with me firing my gun near the house. All other times she tells me to go to the woods or to the range.

Well I can take a pic of my nearly dead tree this afternoon. I've since filled that hole.
We had a big rain storm last night from the tropical depression in the Gulf. All the brown leaves fell off. All I have are a few tiny green leaves from a couple tiny root suckers.
