Hi All

Brilliant forum with a lot of great content.

I recently purchased a Japanese Holly (Ilex Crenata) Bonsai tree which I plan to keep indoors. My question revolves around feeding, I've read that I should feed once a week from Spring to Summer. However, I've also read that because the the tree will be kept indoors I should continue to feed during Autumn and Winter as the tree will not feel the affects of seasonal change due to being kept indoors.

Would love to hear other peoples thoughts and opinions on this.

Thanks

Welcome to Crazy!

I don't know about Illex crenader but you should attempt to get it outside!

I would leave it outside, but if you must keep it indoors, try 1/2 strength every week to 10 days assuming it has lots and lots and lots of light. I keep mine in full sun, that's why I wouldn't put it indoors, but I know that they can tolerate shady conditions too.

I feed the most heavily in spring and fall. I use Brian Van Fleet's recipe for organic fertilizer. For my tropicals, which come indoors, I use osmocote. I haven't been as happy with the results, but I don't want to smell organic fertilizer in the house.
