Hi everyone,

This is the second tree I bought when I visited Meehans. I like the bottom part of the trunk, which is really why I bought it. The movement is nice, IMO. The top can, and will, be chopped down to one of the branches down lower. Thoughts?

I'll probably chop down to this:

yikes??? ficus benjamins.... personally, I love them, just not as bonsai... I find they die back to easy, and put out growth in the last places I would ever want it!!! Having said that, I have seen some awesome bonsai's done, but you will need to treat them differently than your other ficus...

Well actually, I've found the varieties of benjamina do much better than just plain benjamina. For example with 'Kiki' I get tons more buds than I would with benjamina. I dunno, maybe it's the cultivar. I asked one of the owners how well this cultivar does with backbudding, she said "great." Then again, I have no problem getting backbud on benjaminas in general.

I have a "golden angel" and it had two in a pot from exotic angel from lowes. both perfect mame size, and one will be an informal upright and the other a banyan. as for your tree, It looks amazing. I would work on training one of those small branches near the base into a new leader, the one large branch on the side looks good, work on getting that on the other sides, and then I would work on sort of a broom/I. upright/banyan which ficus form naturaly. looks like a good tree.
