Of the 6 cuttings that were rooted in water this is the only one that grew leaves. The base is 1” D, 3/4 & 1/2” branches. The base was wrapped with stainless steel wire about 1” up. I then cut up to the wire in 4 places from the base. Picture looking at the base from The bottom. the trunk is a square with 4 flaps of cambium. 4 small wedges were inserted to flare the trunk.
I saw this on the web, may have been here. It worked! Never took any pics of that procedure as I thought it was a long shot.

I wish you had taken pictures. I think I get it but would love to see it.
Did the procedure produce a nice base flare?

There were no roots yet when I put it in soil Only swelled bumps where they grow from. Time will tel.

Thanks I just watched the video. I went to You tube and put Bonsai Asian in the search. It is very interesting from several standpoints.

Two months later the cutting has died but it did grow some nice radial roots. It may be root rot that killed it? Here are the autopsy photos, I’ll try this again.
