I tend to agree with you, especially if it decides to go deciduous over the winter too.
I just found his comment curious is all. Like I say it now seems healthy enough so there is no rush.

As of today (sorry no photo...) the longer of the new shoots is 55cm!

Edit : I apologize... 55cm is the length of the J. maple shoot. Ficus longer shoot is only 34cm
Yes, My Nellie, it is crazy!
I am looking forward to seeing your training pomegranate .

Thank you for asking @Bon Sai
Following are some photos for you to see its progress.

September 2017
I let it grow free for creating the main branches.

April 2018
I repotted the tree into a big bonsai pot which was at hand. A looot of roots :)
I shortened the cascading trunk and decided which branches I am going to keep.
Small stumps of two removed branches are turned into deadwood.

I pruned the branches back and it responds very well with back buds
It also responds very well with budding when I removed leaves.
I hope I will have a suitable comissioned pot for the tree by next spring when it will be repotted again.

I have noticed that the semi-cascading branch is growing in an obviously slower rate than the other two branches.
I remember that Mrs. Yvonne Graubeck from Denmark had posted on old IBC that she had been growing one of her cascading bonsais upside down during part of the growing season.
So, I decided to experiment with this idea. I wrapped the pot into tightly stretched tulle and I placed the container in such a way that the semi-cascading branch is now facing upwards.

Now I am following closely these two buds at the end of the "new apex" to observe any possible change of their growth rate.

In the next photo you can see a new shoot which is only one week old.
This new shoot came as "replacement" of a former small brach previously growing at the same point (which I wanted to include into my design) but unfortunately it snapped during the wiring.
