Hey guys,

Recently got an idea I wanted to try out with some ficus cuttings in an attempt to create beautiful nebari at an early age.

The first thing I did was grab a cutting. This Tigerbark cutting will do:

I cut out some small circles out of a sheet of polycarbonate I had laying around:

Stuck that circle into the pot:

Then filled with soil and pushed the cutting down until I felt it hit the circle. I did this with several cuttings and then placed them into the cutting greenhouse and sealed it up.

I figure this should work like using a tile in the ground, and once I start to see roots popping out of the bottom of the pots I'll get them into some real soil.

We'll see what happens!

I raid the recycling bin and cut the bottoms off of plastic bottles for this purpose. They're usually manufactured with a domed shape for strength which works well for forcing radial roots on cuttings.
