Posting here the progression of my two ficus trees
The fat one got cold and dropped all its leaves, I took that opportunity for an aggressive root prune (got cheap at Home Depot) and it has been doing well since

I was just out noting mine's leaves going purple due to a couple frosts.

Not sure that cold would make em just drop.

Note.

It was inside by a window, next day the leaves looked like frost damaged and all fell within a few days, I thought the tree was dead
Once I saw a few buds, I repotted and it’s been doing well since

I’ll be more careful in the future. It can get pretty cold where we live, seems the window didn’t protect enough

You wouldn't get frost being inside. I cover my landscape with sheets to protect them.

Next winter I’ll send you pictures of the ice on my windows... inside
I don't disclaim ice on a window pane... but the condensation began from the outside atmosphere. The window is a barrier...

Now maybe cold effected it. But I can't see where frost formed inside when the glass kept that atmosphere outside ones home.

Same as seen on a car windshield. Yet it doesn't reach past that glass barrier to ones dash. Condensation from outside doesn't enter the air inside the car. Only a car window is effected. By condensation freezing. Same as a thin sheet can protect my landscape things. A barrier thin as it is...protects what is under it.

Maybe my choice of words was poor, but it is obvious the tree didn’t like the one night it spent by that window, the leaves the next day were clearly different
Anyhow, I’ve got brand new leaves and it is doing well
