My little microclimate here - in the land of microclimates and microbrews - is one of the more unpredictable ones. Not only is each year full of seasonal surprises, but the seasons bring quite unexpected changes in the trees each year.

In other words, I have NO EARTHLY IDEA why the leaves are so widely and wildly colored this summer!? Right behind the spot where this tree sits on my retaining wall is an actual four-trunk clump of 40 foot Katsuras that we've had in the ground for a dozen years, and they're just solid green - not a speck of color yet. It has been unusually hot and dry this summer, but I have no idea if that's the factor involved in this. The foliage has certainly never been this pretty, even in fall, and it was heading in this direction long before I did the baby bending and guy wiring - so, who knows. I'm just enjoying every minute of it, and not prone to question the gift-bestowing hand of Providence. :)
