This is a great and ironic find. About a month ago, I had posted a thread if anyone has or has seen a shohin spruce with a fat trunk. It seems that they are not east to come by. With the exception of maybe a couple, literallly, a couple of pics on the net of some that were kind of what I was looking for. It seemed that attaining one was going to be a difficult mission. However, our shohin meeting was at a different location and the owner of the property just happen to have one for sale.

This tree was originally collected in Canada by Dan Robinson years ago. It is a sitka spruce. approximately 10 inches tall with a 3 inch base. It was sold to me by John Kirby. John is a great guy and artist...Thanks John.:D

Oh yah... that's a Dan tree. :) He does know how to pick em'. And sitka that small would be a rarer gem.... well done! :)

I'm glad you found one :) Looks great!

What an awesome tree! ;) Looks like it wants to be a windswept tree, and I hope you post it's progress as this is a very unique sitka spruce! John helped me get hooked up with a large field grown trident this spring. He's a nice guy.

Dammit Dan, stop taking our trees! ;)

What a gorgeous little tree. Congrats Rob! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Just remember that the "one insult per year" rule really applies to yamadori spruce.

Jealous!

Thanks everyone

Hello amkhalid... lol... I think that this tree was collected maybe 10 years ago. John recently repotted it, so it will be a couple/few years before that will be done again. I love the angle and the pot that John chose. My plan now is to wait until maybe July, when the buds have extended and become stronger, then wire and maybe cut back a bit. This tree has back budding all over it.

Maybe just a simple, loose formal upright style.
