Hello Folks,

I just completed my first 6 air layer attempts this morning. I used Sphagnum moss and Hormex No. 8 rooting powderI’m hoping they take. They’re all deciduous species including the following:

  • 3 Ginkgo Biloba Chi Chi’s
  • 1 Acer Palmatum Maple
  • 1 Ulmus Parvifolia Chinese Elm
  • 1 Cotinus Coggygria Royal Purple Smoke Bush

All of these will receive morning sun till about noon and then shade the rest of the day, they’re on the northeast side of my house and garage respectively. That is where they were placed before the air layering attempts.

Will they’re ok in their current location or should I move them to a shadier spot?

Thanks for any advice.

Put the trees wherever they were doing well before, no special placement otherwise. If it turns out that place gets a lot of sun, you may want to wrap aluminium foil dull side out around the air layers.
