The tree looked like was already cut before and already has a wire wrapped in the trunk. Should i still do this or wait for now?
The best time to do any major cuts is late winter/early spring with maples..same time you would do a repot.
Usually end of Feb for me in England. Let the plant tell you, watch for the buds to swell.
You can do light pruning anytime during spring/ summer if the tree grows wild or stretch out between the sets of leaves.
I wouldnt do any trimming in autumn to give the tree time to bounce back before winter.
I didnt notice it was wired all the way up so i would leave for now. If it looks like the trunk is growing into the wire remove it.
If you like the shape it is then leave the wire and remove a little in a month or so to see if its holding its shape.
The best time for styling and wiring is winter when the tree is dormant and you can see the structure without leaves.
You can make major cuts and the tree just bounces back in spring...well usually
Hope this helps...Good luck and have fun
