Sorry if this has been asked before but after a quick search I didn't find the answer that addressed this. I know I've read not to fertilize a tree right after repotting, but I've never seen anything that said how long you should wait after a repotting to start fertilizing?

I fertilize all my plants at the same time...including newly collected or repotted trees.

Actually, I even add a little slow release fertilizer pellets in my soil mix. :D

I have read the same as you and they recommend for Bonsai to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the fine roots to establish avoiding fertilizer burn. Myself I soak the repot through with water and make sure the substrate is surrounding the roots. Once I am happy I follow up with a heavy dose of 20-20-20 because the dry stall will not contain any nutrients. It is not very often I repot but when I do that is my routine.

You can fertilize right after repotting and not worry about root burn or setting the tree back. Whether the roots will be able to absorb the nutrients really depends on the intensity of the root work, so waiting a few weeks isn't a bad idea either.
