Chumono
Here is the beginning. Fried and diseased JM from a nursery in 10B.
I hard chopped in October and repotted in April. Roots not happy. Wrong sequence and way ahead of myself.
The “is it truly a green AP” post....
I really liked Clem’s work with a shallow large box for root surface area and development of nebarI. I wanted to build a box and give it a try.
Here we are today in a 28 inch box. Main leader is about 16 inches. Nebari width about 2.5 inches. Trunk about 1.5 -2 inches. It’s against a wall facing east so it gets sun only to about 11-12 pm. It did come from a socal nursery so it is used to the heat. Upon repotting it got a healthy dose of worm castings and about once every 2 months it gets a light application of gypsum/minerals. Feed about every 2 weeks.
I am happy so far with the progress. First wack at a JM.
Picked Up a Japanese Maple, Drowning - Is it too late to repot and prune?
Got this aged tree for a good price. Little beat up. There is some powdery mildew and hopefully nothing more. Some weird yellowing going on. 5 gal pot with about 3 gals of soil. The soil is a heavy clay or some other organic fine dense substrate. The 3 gallons of soil did not dry out in about a...

Repotting Time after Hard Chop JM
What’s your opinion on getting this into a basket/box in proper soil. It was hard chopped about 2 months ago. Buds are thickening up and it is sending out new shoots. Would it be too early to repot? The soil is fine grained and retains moisture. I need to take care of that knobby crossing root...

Noxious Vine Rhizomes Or Tuber All Up In My Ball

Bought as a Standard Green AP - Is it?
This was a beater from a local nursery. Here in socal almost all the JM cultivars are grafted to standard green AP root stock. I saw this was not grafted and was one of the smaller ones they had. Looked beat up like a potential return. This is the first flush of growth. Do you think it is a...
