Since i really I don't see them often in my area I had to pick up a Pyracantha. I dug around the roots and it has about an 1" base. I've read a lot of threads here and they seem to tolerate hard pruning. They also seem to root easily from cuttings. I'd like to get a tree about 6-8". As is it's about 18- 24". I plan on waiting til spring to prune back, or can I do it now? There are some well placed branches which will set it up with nice taper. The large branches at the base worry me and I think should be removed in stages to avoid dieback.
