Walnuts are always amongst the last trees to leaf out.

Here in SD, my black walnuts are the last to get leaves in the spring and the first to lose them in the fall.

How’s this doing?

It died. I didn't use enough wire to secure it into the pot, and the dog knocked into it. I didn't discover it right away, and the roots had all dried out at that point.

It didn't have a very strong response to collection. It grew, but it only had a couple of shoots, and the roots were few and stringy. I didn't have enough of a rootball to tie it down with just two pieces of wire like I would for any other tree, but I didn't know it wouldn't work until it actually tipped over. That was the end for an already weak tree.
