I'm really interested to watch this one! My wife and I went to visit the Avenue of the Giants to see the redwoods last January. I plucked a handful of bigleaf maple seeds of a tree there to plant.

This is one year's growth from seed!

These guys outgrow my redwood seedlings! I've got a few others I planted into a loose clump.

If yours grow anything like mine did, this will be a fun one to watch :D

Yeah, I guess limiting growth is going to be the big issue.

Could it be Douglas Maple?
I don't think so. The leaves look like big leaf maple. Glabrum has toothy leaves that are less lobed. Importantly, lots of big leaf maples around me here. I have not seen a mature douglas or vine maple nearby.

@parhamr has a couple of threads that mention leaves scaling down a bit. https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/progression-of-acer-macrophyllum-b.21919/ and https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/progression-of-acer-macrophyllum-c.21945/
