Fixing the apex

Hello everyone! I have a Lysiloma latisiliquum I got as a pre bonsai that I am growing in a formal upright style. I have repotted and done so basic wiring (albeit before I learned proper wiring techniques). The tree has been growing very healthy and I have been doing some minor pruning for basic shape. I have removed a few branches from the apex that were growing directly from the same location to stop any more reverse tapering at the top but before I do more I am hoping to gain some advice as to the best way to correct the issues that were already present so as the tree grows I can start fresh. I am looking to get the apex ready before spring. As you will be able to see from the pictures, there is a large bludge from the main branch in front that seems to have become the leader, but this seems to interrupt the straight line of the formal upright style. There are multiple other similar branches in a radiating fashion that I have not removed yet. My goal is a canopy styles apex. I was considering just having the canopy cover the building branch, Versus carving the side of it down (while preserving the front vein). I am open to doing what is best!

With the size of that one large branch letting you know what this is capable of, I would chop it down to the first 2 branches and give yourself a good start.

It seems like this was chopped with the intent of chipping it further later.

If it was just ignored, you don't have to ignore your chop after you make it.

The thick branch is maybe a centimeter in diameter.
