As I prepare to retire out of the country in a few years, and am liquidating my collection, I had the camera out today to get some down and dirty photos of a few hangers-on that caught my eye.

I have about 18 trees growing in the yard for 5-10 years over tiles, and dug up these four this year, the rest to go over the next couple of years. All are about 5" at the base.

First a Liquidambar (sweetgum, winged branch variety):

Next a Luma Apiculata (Chilean myrtle) I got from Brent years ago:

Next a Corkbark Chinese elm, Corticosa, I believe:

More in the next post . . . .

Then here's a just-dug-up butt-ugly Jack pine:

Then here are a few that have recently been for sale, but didn't sell, but just caught my eye today as worthy of a quick photo.

Shishigashiri, in her full splendor:

A better front angle for this RMJ:

And a little Juniper procumbens nana in a nice Erin pot:

Enjoy!

If I could keep a Japanese maple here it would be the shishigashira.
Aren't they beautiful?

Good pickup. I really like Will's style. Definitely Robinson-influenced, but with a touch more refinement.
It's a game changer to add a really nice tree to the bench.

Howzza' bout working a new shot with Rupert ?
I can assume he no longer fits into a bonsai pot ?

Heck no! He'll be 6 months old Ocrober 6. He weighs 55 lbs. now. I could probably get one of him for the Ulmus selfie thread. He loves grabbing the small elms off of the benches and shaking them so the soil goes one way and the pot the other. He does love his bonsai.
I'll see what I can do.

That is a sweet one ! Really nice score. How long had he been training it? Did he collect it?

He bought it at a nursery in 2005. It's been in that pot and soil for 5 years. Not sure of the cultivar. I didn't even know Jacks were sold at nurseries.
Brian, it is a game changer for me. Now I have a bonsai that inspires me to try to grow trees to match it's caliber.

There isn't a Japanese maple of any sort growing within 90 miles of here. The winters.
Henry Sorrenson is on 75 just south of Huron and keeps them. Not exactly sure how he winters, but he does.
