We had our show this last weekend. It is outdoors at a Japanese garden. The weather was perfect. The Shin Zen Garden was beautiful with the ume in blossom and fresh leaves on the maples. The pollen was prolific, coming down in clouds when the peacocks jumped in the trees or a good breeze blew.

Ted Matson did our Saturday demo and gave a critique of our trees. Grizzlyone, treecutter, and of course Al were all there. Al had a very nice tokonoma display.

First is a picture of some club members and some of us regulars here on BNut. Ted Matson is critiquing, Richard Ramierez, Ray Theime, Grizzlyone in the ball cap, Al, Dwayne, and Treecutter.

The other pictures are various images from our show or from the garden.

Here is a native Alsai, or is it an Alseki, and one of our signs. I have some other pictures but the uploads keep failing:mad:

Here are a few more shots that I resized to upload. Two are my daughter and one is the Ume Garden.

Thanks very much for sharing. Your description, coupled with the pictures, gave me a nice feeling while at the office this morning. One of my favorite times of the year.

Thanks Catfish, she is very sweet too.

mcpesq817, I brought two cameras. The one with tree images is having behavior problems. Maybe Al will post some of his pictures. We had some amazing trees on display too. I loved Al's shohin display the very most. I will keep tying to resolve the camera issue.

I can post these pictures of my 'morris midget' boxwood. It is 5"-6" tall from soil line. I have been working with it for 2 years so it is in early development. The first picture is actually to the left side rather than the front. I'm not sure why I didn't get a front-on image.:(

The second picture is of a visitor taking a picture of the tree. It gives a size perspective. The trees in the background are those of a teenaged member of our club. We encourage all members to show something. The third picture shows my display including the "newer member" sign.

The pot and stand are not traditional at all. The pot is quite deep but that is on purpose. Yes it is a real log slice. I over pot because I am a busy mom and we get serious hot and cold weather. I have lost every mame and shohin sized tree I had in shallower pots. Those are agate stones and miniature ribbon grass in the pot. Combining all of the elements created a nice picture. I chose the elevated stand in order to place the tree at eye level.

The young children's trees had a sign that said, "youth members". That way visitors understood that these were trees in early development. I think the public feels more like they could try it when they see different calibur trees. My kids are so proud to be welcomed by the club.

Here are some random pictures that can show the flavor of the exhibit but not the detail. The park is too green for that.

enjoy...

It looks like a beautiful setting for a show (but a real challenge for a photographer). There were some eye-catching oaks as well as an impressive stand of shohin. Thanks for sharing.

When is the Hanford show?

Hey, I see me in that first photo hiding behind a dubious character!
It was a great show. I really appreciated and learned a lot by walking around with Al and Ted Matson when he did the critiques.

Here are a few pics I took. I've been playing around with HDR imagery.

I'm glad people show their trees, regardless of what development stage they're in. We incourage all our members to bring whatever they want for our show, we don't turn down anybody. For some reason a few people think you need a world class bonsai to display it, just the opposite is true, there aren't that many world class trees in America anyway. If that's all you expect to see at a show , just go to New York and stay home the rest of the year. Thanks for posting.

Keep it green,
Harry
