A fraction of these seedlings potted up. This batch is in coco coir/perlite at varying ratios. I'll be using potting soil / pumice in the next batch and then some more in straight potting soil (if I get around to it). I'm wiring some and leaving others be, as well as leaving the roots be on some and using a metal washer while others I'm attacking the roots and removing the tap root.

I've never used coco coir/perlite before so we'll see how this goes. I'm thinking these perlite chunks might be too big.

The seedlings in the rootmaker cell pot grid things, had nearly no tap root. I like these little things. I'm curious to see how my japanese black pine did in a similar tray with larger cells.

Some clumps and forests with the seedlings. No real method to the madness here just throwing some in pots. Will be interesting to see where these go. Still growing plenty of solo trees for a potential group planting later on once thicker.

Haha -- the seed companies always send way more seeds than any hobbyist could ever need. Try it yourself and you'll probably end up with a bunch of clumps and forests too :)

Hehe.. It's like, "Yeah, three packs sound good"...

As you get better at growing, more survive.. and three packs is ALOT.

Some of the stronger growers in the individual pots. Both of the twin trunks have already fused at the base which is nice. I think I still may have time to put some movement into these two, but it's getting close to difficult bend time. Not sure what will be used in the final composition for this thread but it's nice to have options. I have 42 others in pots that are slightly smaller than these. Most all of these had their second flush crisped away. I'm not sure if it was our unusually hot summer this year or something else.

Some fall updates. I tried to put some movement with wire in the individually potted plants - I'll probably end up taking the best ones and growing them on as individuals. I tried a few twin trunk / triple trunk / kabudachis as well. This has been a fun experiment, excited to see where they head from here. The individually planted maples in the first row are the largest, these hang out side of the realm of the shade tree above this section. I think I need to have more faith in these taking some real sun/heat!

Some of the mini forests from this batch. Will post an update of the singles that might be used for forest creation later this winter. Will do some reduction/pruning on these little ones this spring and maybe do some wedging/wiring/repositioning this fall.
