Sooo. I knew that I’d have to repot/separate the Parkinsonia seedlings soon.. as the soil used for their germination is NOT preferred for their growth/development...

So here they are.. keeping my wire guidance real loose..

(the smallest one did not receive any “guidance” yet)

I REAAALLY like “small star-leaved Maples” and feel they are underrepresented in (at least) North American Tinytree culture... so I intend on learning everything about them... I also ordered quite a few seeds.. so possibly “infusing the market with handsome specimens of underrated non-endemic maples.” Also.

I got the Acer Truncatum seeds out of the “tub” and into cold strat. The Acer Monspessulanum seeds went in on the first. :)

I originally pronounced the latter as Acer "Monsplaining" (when a dude from Jamaica explains something really simple to an overqualified woman) and now I've just decided to go with it.
It's the monsplaining maple.

I laughed out loud VERY “big” and abrupt-like...and frightened my family.

@AlainK , I am calling you over here (jumping up and down waving my hands) because I figured these where right up your “Unique/under appreciated Maples from seed”-Alley 🤣

I have Acer Monspessulanum, Acer Truncatum and Acer Miyabei spp. miaotiense (spelling?)... in cold stratification.. (except the Miyabei, isn’t here quite yet)

Have you any experience with any of these plants?

Also some of the Malus seedlings got some LOOSE, supplementary wiring. Accentuating the movement partially supplied by the screen training.. OR were too short to experience the full benefits.. :)

Either way.. not many needed it, the screen-technique REALLY sufficed..

I stopped taking pictures about 2/3 of the way through. 🤓

Acer monspessulanum - I guess is used some in bonsai, much like Acer campestris. I have no experience with it.

Acer truncatum - the Shantung maple - I have no hands on with them, but Evergreen Gardenworks sells or sold them as a slightly smaller leaf maple similar to Acer platanoides - the Norway maple. Evergreen Gardenworks recommended larger scale bonsa for the Shantung maple.

Acer miyabei - is another maple used much like Acer platanoides, I suspect it would be best for larger scale bonsai, finished size over 3 feet tall.

You picked some uncommon maples. Maples that really don't have much of a track record for bonsai. But they all might work, especially if you don't try to keep them "really tiny".

Thank you, Leo!

It shall be an adventure!

These Cratageus seeds started their journey at the same time as my Malus seeds... decided to get them into a growing container and into Ma’frame..

There’s a SMALL chance I may see sprouts this spring... more realistically this will happen NEXT spring. 🤓
