It's been 37 days without rain here in the pacific NW so that means good weather for the start of the curator's display. For those not Familar with The Pacific Rim Garden, It is physically at the headquarter's building of Weyerhaeuser in Federl Way, Washington. David de Groot has been in charge since it's inception.

Love them all but I am attracted to the bald cypress the most.

I'd say they are about a quarter of those he owns. My favorite yew didn't get selected and he has some killer shohin. But all in all, not a bad representation.
yesterday I volunteered up at the collection and worked on some of john naka's junipers. Judy b from Ohio was up there visiting from Ohio, so had the priviledge of meeting her and her hubby. that was kinda special....:)

I just re-read this post prior to posting and was smitten by the matter of fact way i mentioned working on a john naka presentation. So matter of fact so calm and collected....Holy smoke! What a priviledge, I never thought in my life time to be able to have such an opportunity. very humbling.....

It was a great experience to see the collections and meet Dick. Kinda surreal to even know someone who works on such important pieces. I had a couple favs, Dave's BC was right up there for me. There was a Tucker Oak that stole my heart in the main collection, I had a hard time unlatching myself from that spot. Also there was a very nice small hackberry. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the pics I took of them, if Dick says its ok, I'll do that tomorrow once we're home.

re: Hackberry (in the main collection at least) would be the Ben Oki Hackberry --- which is a personal fav of me and Vic's .... David's hackberry is also amazing!

re: pictures ... you are allowed to post the photographs from the rim ... they are for personal use and not commercial gain .... this is why Vic has done so on many occasions ... this would also be why Dick can post them (unless of course you are referring to the fact that you don't want to mess up the thread... which is a whole other story! :) ) ...

Thanks for the pictures, Dick, and for including the descriptions. I love the pitcher plant accent with the BC. I've always thought it would be great to use some of the native carniverous plants (fly trap, pitcher plant, or especially sundews) as an accent to a bald cypress.

Yes Judy, you'd be welcome to post your pictures. as Eric so rightly explained, as long as they are not for commercial purposes, it's fine. Besides, we need something more artful than my point and shoot stuff :)

Beautiful collection, thanks for the pics Dick. I'd love to see this other hackberry Judy. I too really thought that bald cypress was great, I also liked the Chinese elm cascade.

Thanks for posting these! I saw a few of his trees at the Denver ABS/BCI show; he does a great job.

I think the three that speak to me most at the moment are the cascade chinese elm, boxwood and jaboticaba. Of course they all are beautiful though :)
