Hello All,
So i have 3 fukien tea trees i saved from a big box store, only one has potential to become bonsai. i have had them for about 6 months now they have all gone through about 3 or 4 flowering cycles and are doing AMAZING.I am getting some nice long shoots growing off of them and i would like to propagate them and turn them into some S curve informal upright pre bonsai. i tried propagating one by chopping it and placing it in soil ( the same way you can with a ficus , this however resulted in it whittling up and dying. it was about 5 or 6 nodules in length, my thought was maybe enough hardwood on the cutting i took. these ones however are aot longer about 8 or 9 leaf node sections ( i think thats what you call them ).

anyways lol has anyone successfully propagated a fukien tea?

You may wish to try again in late spring.
They are zone 9 and not Tropical shrubs.
They are normally easy from cuttings, seed or roots.

Thanks , from all my research they came up as a tropical species of plant , would it be ok to start wiring the shoots and then propagate in late spring? also do i put cuttings into water or just into damp soil and let root?

I can give you no advice on wiring as on my side we only use
grow and clip. The Fukien tea is a hedging shrub.

It helps to remember mainland China has no tropical zone.
Lowest is on the beach at zone 10.
The limit for the tropics is a low to 55 deg.F

In late spring, just stick cuttings in damp or wet bonsai soil
Place in bright light. Rooting powder will help.
Or use seeds.
