I picked up this fun little shohin Hinoki cypress from my local garden center today for $20. Nothing incredibly spectacular, but goes to show you can find interesting plant material for cheap prices. I’m not sure of the cultivar as it didn’t have a label but I loved the small character of the tree so I had to get it.

I repotted into this small grow pot just now.

Where'd you get that grow pot?
I ordered it online from Bonsai outlet. They have quite a few different sizes but it seems the smallest sizes are never available. This is a size 4.5 pot.

are you sure that's a hinoki?
I think it’s a cultivar called butter ball. Whether that’s good for bonsai, I’m not sure but it reminds me of a really cool shohin Hinoki I saw on Instagram

Looks like the variety “nana”
I would tend to agree with that. The reason I mentioned that I think it’s “butter ball” is because it was in a section with a bunch of similar plants with tags saying butter ball, but this one was the only one that didn’t have that characteristic yellow foliage of that cultivar.
