Do bonsai grow well in close containers like terrariums? If so, is there anything special I need to do to care for the bonsai in a container?

Who is “General Bonsai”?

Tell him to let the mangroves breathe!

A plant’s gotta breath, Joe Brogan!

I can't think of any tree that would do well under those conditions

I think pruning would be too difficult/impossible, even if you found plants that would tolerate the indoor light, high humidity, and lack of drainage. Better to enjoy your bonsai in the open air (outdoors, for most), and your terrarium inside. 🙂

I know of one setup, in Japan, costing around 10K dollars that can house one single pine.
Ficus might last a long time in a terrarium, anything else will perish over time.

The only type of tree that would even have the slightest chance of surviving that would be some tropical species - but even then, that doesn't sound like a good environment at all. As said already, pruning would be difficult and if it's completely sealed, the tree will likely run out of usable air
