Tridents will probably have some definite problems in Utah. I was born there and lived in Salt Lake till I was 12, I know a little about the climate and Tridents are likely to turn into kindling within a year.
Not trying to start an argument, just providing local information. Tridents do fine here as long as they are protected in the winter (when containerized). I have a few that are doing well, and know many others that have thriving tridents in the area. I don't have experience with tridents in the ground here, but I imagine the mulching them in and protection from drying winter winds would be sufficient.
