my friend alan recently gave me two glazed pots he described as "old". both were badly weathered and stained from years of exposure to the elements. I wasn't certain, even with heavy applications of elbow grease, that I'd be able to clean them up. I tackled the dirtiest pot first, and nearly gave up after unsuccessfully trying green scrubbers, steel wool, acetone, lacquer thinner, rubbing compound, soap, wd40, even wet and dry sandpaper. at wits end, I put the pot aside and began cleaning my tools with a medium grit cleaning block. without thinking, I tried the block on the pot with surprising results. sharing some pictures.

best wishes, sam

Now that looks like some progress! Nice looking pot! Funny how sometimes the answer is right under your nose but just not in the right "compartment" so you don't even think about it :p

6 sided pot. same color scheme

Unless they were stained unnaturally, I can't see a reason to do this. Glad they came out clean and undamaged for you, but you may have scrubbed off half the value and charm. I like watching Pawn Stars on the History Channel, and whenever someone brings in an old, shiny cleaned up gun or coin, the guys just shudder. I kind of see pots the same way.

I think I know why folks give you things, because you are a generous giver of gifts your self.

Thought you might like to see this, a gift you gave my friend Fred M in San Diego.

He was so proud and told your story to everyone who would listen
