I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and getting a couple shimpaku. I need to learn all I can about basic care and stuff like timing for repotting/trimming.

Is there a good online resource? So far all I've read is why pinching is bad and how to properly trim.

Are we on the same forum?
There's a lot of juniper info that can be found here. Peoples threads are littered with hints of care and the reasoning behind it ;-)
And then there's the 'it depends' factor.

It still takes roughly two juniper deaths to get the jist of it.

Wow, really? Figured it would be better to find a site with cohesive info instead of having to wade through thousands of threads looking for tidbits.

That Fl Dbag put a resource here that folks said was pretty good.

Lotta water, little worry.

Cut before spring growth.
Cut before summer growth.

Don't cut a good year before repotting.

Straight into full sun and excessive water.

....as far as repotting, won't be long now......now if you can provide frost-free recovery.....

Thanks @sorce and @LanceMac10 sounds easy enough and I'm taking notes.

Will have frost for another month at least, maybe longer. I don't even have the plants yet, they will ship in a couple weeks.

They will be bagged in soil, about a gallon pots worth. Should I keep them in the soil for now or work the roots and get them into bonsai substrate?

They are 7-10 inche pre bonsai, one will probably go in the ground
