I was reading my bougainvillea book...it has a section on bonsai as well. It mentions the value of an old bougainvillea stump that is grafted. Saying that the nessecary grafted parts will give brighter and bigger flowers, and flower more lushly at a lower height. Leaves are smaller and fewer in proportion to the flowers. And the general appearance makes it highly attractive even as it assumes bonsai-like characteristics.
I found that rather interesting...also wondered if Sam may have used this technique with his bougainvillea stumps he works on?
