Finally getting down to business with this one.
It was getting very shaggy, lots of foliage getting shaded out....went hard, but kept a load of green in the bag (which will be removed later on), to ensure health of the tree.

Its rough....I know, but I think this is a good primary structure to grow from.

Thoughts are always appreciated!
Thanks for looking!

Nice, nice trunk and good start. I’ve found that after I do about that much to a tree it becomes much easier to see ways to improve and further the design. By next time decisions will probably be easier or already made and it will just get better each time it’s worked. Theoretically speaking 😃

I know it's early in development, but I'm interested in what others think about pot choices for this tree in the future.

Thanks man!
I think I like the final picture right now....but that gives me something to consider.

I'll have to play with planting angles as well, in th future.
This pot is large and I imagine the tree can stay in it for 10 years.
Hopefully in ten years I can get it Bonsai Pot Worthy.

@Japonicus
Here it is now...
I will take more pics soon....it has grown a bit since the thinning and wiring.
Looks like its finally on its way.
@Japonicus
Did you get turned around in the threads???
I did for a minute there! Haha!

Sorry for the confusion.

This will be the progression thread for this 1st one.

The 2nd one will get a new thread when its time to thin and style it....for now it will recover and gain strength.
I plan to remove some unneeded branches next year, and thats all until spring 2021, when I will HBR the other side.

I'd like your thoughts over here @sorce !

Haha! Bitchin use of the bag ...
The last pick had me confused!

What's the base look like?
Just wondering if it's determining the angle.

I like the shape and space you have the foilage in, but I think this stance is kinda predictable, leaving you without much room for creativity in the canopy.

The pot also makes this boring AF.

If you can find a rock to tie it to, and damn near upside down cascading....
I think you can make it interesting enough to keep playing with.

I think you know you have the ability to keep a tree alive in a pot and throw a green triangle on it.
But what would Jerry do?

I redressed the top today as well, noticed many roots running along the surface, just under the old sphagnum layer.....so I was happy to see that.

This tree has no nebari to speak of.... its basically nonexistent.....but I'm curious to see where the surface roots are coming from.

There will be more dead wood to expose eventually.
I plan to leave it in this big heavy flower pot for as long as I need to....been 2 years now in there.

I could potentially change the planting angle some....but due to the large main roots, it will never have a flat root mass, the rootball will always be on the deeper side.

Every branch I wired sprouted new growth
That should make ya feel good
The pot also makes this boring AF.
On days like today and other recent windy days
our plants in these pots generate a sense of satisfaction.
Nothing like coming home from work only to find you hadn't
prepared for the gusts that evaded your personal radar or they didn't see coming.

FWIW @just.wing.it the 2 I have, have been frost proof, unprotected, and while in use.
If I get that etching acid to knock the shine off and it holds the paint, I'll let ya know
but for now, the paint keeps chipping off, but sparingly.

Removed the sacrifice branches....
Tips are greening up.....
Added a bit of chopped sphagnum to the surface and some live moss that I hope will spread....
Brought it in for a 360° spin and pics.
